When to add sand stirrers

I know it is helpful to use sand stirring organisms to help prevent an accidental release of deadly gases from a live sand bed, but when should I add them? Are they generally hardy enough to survive the nitrogen cycle or do I need to wait until afterwards?

dont add anything that is living to your tank during a cycle

Once the cycle is complete,sand stirrers can be added at the same time or after fishes.Nassarius snails,ceriths,fighting conches make good sand sifters.Avoid adding anything that consumes fauna that live in the sandbed like sandsifting starfishes and gobies.

I am a fan of sand stars, but others disagree. I have never lost a tank and I have had stars in my tanks for 4 years. The same stars. 1 starfish per 45 gallons or so. That is my rule
