tank list

Reefing newb
I know I've been just hoping. But now I have a 75 gallon tank and stand now I need supplements filtration etc.etc.etc.

Ok I'm going in order from largest to smallest.

1:Yellow eye kole tang

2:Copperband butterflyfish

3:Orange spotted blenny

4:Mellanarus wrasse

5:Leopard toby puffer (NOT A POSITIVE DESCISION MADE)

6:Orange spotted goby + Tiger pistol shrimp

7:Purple dottyback

I know the puffer can murder inverts and corals so that's why I'm not sure what to do.

Congrats on crossing from virtual to reality! Remember to get them in order of temperament. That Kole eye tang can be a big bully.

Since you are just starting out, I would leave the more difficult fish out of your tank. Gain some tank husbandry experience, learn what works and what doesn't. Then after a while of a very stable tank, you can try you hand at it. This is also a very expensive fish. If you lose it, you will be very upset.

I know I would get later but I think your right I'll wait.

I think I'm just going to covert my creamsicle molly now.

You're planning on making the molly full salt?

While they can survive in that situation, they do not thrive have have significantly shortened lifespans.

The copperband is best left in the ocean. I've kept plenty of 'difficult' and 'expert' only fish and I tried a copperband for Aipstaisa control. Having aipstaisa or the clam trick is not a sure fire way to get those fish eating. As a new aquarist, save yourself the letdown and pass on the butterfly

As you've already stated a puffer will eat inverts. This is not a maybe thing, its going to happen. That includes clean up crew as well as corals.

Also, be aware that the melanurus wrasse will eat shrimp, and not just the small ones (as me how I know)

I know about the melanarus wrasse but it's such a beautiful fish, I'm willing to take the risk.

Id say skip the shrimp, your only gonna get attached to him and be ticked off when he is converted to fish poo.

However if you are going to have a sump with a fuge, you could put him in there

Skip the shrimp? What fish besides the mel is going to eat it? It gets just as big as cleaner shrimp.

Edit: actually just checked live aquaria and they get bigger than cleaner shrimp.

An Adult melanurus going after ornamental shrimp is pretty much a for sure thing. When I had Aipstaisa real bad I added a bunch of peppermint shrimp. The Melanurus had all of them before they hit the rocks, it was sad and incredibly amazing at the same time. I could not believe how efficiently he got the shrimp.
