Beach sand

I brought back 15 or so pounds of sand from the beach from my last trip to PC. I placed it in my already running(1 yr) 10 gallon that just......... runs upstairs with a small CUC. All has been well. I dug this sand up in the surf and harvested from about 6" or more from the top of the sand bed. Is it safe to pull a hundred or so pounds to start a tank? It's essentially free.

I would be extremely worried about what was left in the sand, even when taken from that deep.

Also, im sure you are required to have a permit to take that much sand so be sure you know what the local laws are before you take sand. It could be very costly if you dont.

The sand is not aragonite. Aragonite will release a lot of calcium into the water over time. If you do use Atlantic coast beach sand ( I am quite familiar with it) rinse it very well.
