Next question is, what should I put in there? Live rock, pods, live sand, macro algea, etc? What kind of macro algea?

Fill the bottom with sand. You can get about 6" of sand in there. Takes about 10lbs of sand. Maybe a handful of small rock rubble and a hunk of cheato macro algae.
