Hello All,
This is my first foray into saltwater aquaria. I have decided to jump in with both feet and purchased a 110 gal. tall (48" long, 30" tall, and 18" deep) display tank.
I purchased this setup used and it came with 2 175w metal halide fixtures with bulbs, ballasts and the whole nine yards, as well as a flourescent fixture with the capacity for two 48" T-8 (I think, it's the same as the bulbs in a regular four foot fixture in an acoustical celing) bulbs.
I would like some info on what kind of bulbs I would want to use. I want to eventually have a reef tank (setting up a 30 gal. sump tank underneath) loaded with live rock and corals.
I have heard I need two different bulbs and want the best types for my deeper than typical tank. I have heard and read other comments about full light spectrum but I don't know what portion of the spectrum that the metal halides cover.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
