Sea cucumbers must be purchased undamaged and gently handled and properly acclimated. cucumbers have the ability to poison the entire system if injured or overly stressed by other animals picking on it. so not recommended for the causual reefer, other than than that they are great animals. the substrait goes in the front, is ground around inside and is expelled out the rear as clean as the day it was put in. you cannot have any open pump intakes or other equipment that will damage the cucumber as it will travel all over the system walls as well, rock, substrait ect. also you must make sure it cannot contact a heater. your water quality needs to be very good and full strength sea water for these animals. if a bit too threatening stay with the cerith snails. good luck.
