Pocillipora damicornis

Epos

Reefing newb
I've noticed in my reading that Pocillipora damicornis seems to be a favorite among scientists for testing and observing coral behavior, sensitivity, reactivity, and experimentation. Can anybody tell me why? I know it's one of the easier stony corals to keep (even though they seem to die off every time I try to put one with my acros :frustrat:) but there must be another reason because many other stony corals, such as montiporas (even though they seem to dislike yote just like Pocilliporidae hates me), are as easy to keep. It has relatively big polyps for an sps which I would imagine is helpful for studying some things but, then again, so do all members of Pocilliporidae. So what's up with them?
