UV Sterilizer

Hi everyone. I am a newbie to the saltwater world. I have a 46gal bow front. I am looking into buying a UV Sterilizer. Does anyone have any opinions on a brand and wattage i should use for my setup.
My setup right now is a 46 gal bow front with

46 pounds of live rock
40 pounds of live sand
Aqua C Remora protein skimmer with marineland maxi-jet 1200
Marineland magnum 350
[FONT=&quot]Koralia Evolution 1050 - 1050 gph - 5.5W[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Marineland stealth pro heater 250W[/FONT]

2 AquaticLife T5 HO Dual Lamp Light Fixtures

Do you really need one?I can tell you the majority of reefers don't use one because the bad outweighs the good for most of us.I'm no expert on UV but I've good things on the Turbo-Twist.You would only need the 9w version.

I don't know if i need one. But i heard it helps with parasites and algae.

Yeah most people don't use one. I think the disadvantages outweigh the benefits in a reef system. If you are not having parasite or algae problems, why do you want one? There are other, more effective, ways to deal with algae.

I disconnected mine after a week. Its New and came with my tank 9watt if you want it let me know.

I have had an issue with ich and algae in my tank. I was reading about the uv sterilizers and thought it would help.

Yeah it will help with ich and algae. But it won't eliminate them.

I have had such a horrible time with ich. I'm just looking for as much help as i can get at this point.

My tangs had ich about a year ago and I got the biggest UV that I could find and ran it for a couple of months non-stop. Ich was all gone, along with all the good stuff like the critters. The tank was pretty much completely sterilized. No free food for fishes.

I guess that i am better off just not buying one. I think the bad out ways the good. Thanks everyone for the help.
