Reefing newb
Ok. I have all kinda of stuff crawling out of my rock but these two have me stumped i cant find anything to identify them. My rock (well 80 lbs) went from the gulf to my tank withing a few hours.

This was dark purple and shriveled thought it was dead, now bright orange with a mouth at the end..

This isn't a very good picture but the polyps look like some form of gorgonian

I'm lost any ideas

the gorgonian must be an encrusting form or the rest of it was dead and now spreading again and from what i have read on them it is photosynthetic..
and the other does not move i have been thinking that i need to move the rock its coming out of, its growing out of the underside because i thought it was dead..

Thank you

If the orange thing has one mouth, and the mouth looks like a hole, it's a tunicate. There are so many different types of them, but if you google it, you may find something similar. Tunicates are harmless, and are filter feeders. They are usually short lived in our tanks, although I have had a few of them in my tank for years.
