    Protein Skimmer Woes

I have removed my Remora C skimmer...it continues to pull straight water out of my system and although its probably been good for the tank (lots of changed out water) I know this isn't working right. I replaced it with a skimmer by "Aqua Clear Aquatics" (in sump)...a not so local fish store...

    Green Mantis Shrimp Confirmed

OK...I'm sorry to start a different thread but now that I have absolutely confirmed I have a green mantis shrimp, I'd like to hear how I can capture this amazing creature and eliminate it from my tank. I just saw it a few minutes ago blowing out sand underneather one of my rocks on the edge of...

I saw something really bizzare tonight

Earlier this evening I was waiting for a friend to come over and watch a movie...as I was waiting I was staring into my tank and just as I looked away I saw something skitter away out of the corner of my eye...I watched the same location and saw something green come out of a rock, it was bizzare...

My Arrow Crab Rocks and other things I've found

Got an arrow crab Friday and he has been an absolute rock star...so much fun to watch. I'm puzzled though, I read descriptions about him "after" I brought him home and they all list them as being carnivores. Since he's been in my tank he has done nothing but graze like crazy on algae and stuff...

    My Lawnmower Blenny

Here is Phineas in all his glory...fat and happy camper has been grazing algae since day one and subsequently produces lots of waste. He normally doesn't lay in the open brain coral but just happened to be while I was sitting next to the tank on my laptop with my camera. Need to invest in...

    Opinions Please - Cleaner Crew

Considering investing in this for a cleaner crew...is anything in this "package" detrimental to having corals? Are there better options? I have a lawnmower blenny so far...he will be one week in the tank on Tuesday...eating and pooping machine that one is :) but need to get a little more "algae"...

    Here comes the green algae

Ok...I've developed some green algae growth (which I've read is to be somewhat expected in a new tank). Tank has been cycled for about a week or so. I added a lawnmower blenny last Tuesday. He is fat and happy and munching away at the various rocks, but I don't see him keeping up with the...

    My First Fish

Aqua Remora C - BIG PIECE OF S!#T

Oh My God!...in the last 24 hours this piece of shit Aqua Remora C has sucked pure water out of my tank and even though I have an overflow fitting running into a 2L bottle I have had standing water in my "WOOD" stand...holy "F"!!!!! I am besides myself...it is absolutely ridiculous that this...

    New Skimmer = Microbubble Hell

I installed my new Remora skimmer this afternoon and I now have microbubbles freaking everywhere...not a happy camper at all. Even though I employ a baffle system in my fuge/sump, I have microbubbles :mad!!: Anybody have any "microbubble elimination" tricks up their sleeve?

    Finally....

Well, after three looooooong weeks and a few days, my tank has finally turned the corner on cycling. :bounce: Both my nitrites and nitrates have fallen...nitrites are probably 1.6 to 3.3 mg/l and nitrates are probably 12.5 to 25 mg/l...both were "off the scale" last week and up until tomorrow...

    3 weeks and counting...

Well, it is officially three weeks since I added my live rock and my nitrites and nitrates are still high. I am hopeful that in the next week I will see some decrease so I can have my 25lbs TBSW rock and 5lbs of TBSW sand shipped. I forgot how hard this waiting game was with the reef aquarium...

    Skimmer Recommendations

OK...I need new/another skimmer for my 40g with 20g sump/fuge. I have an in-the-sump skimmer that is creating foam and has removed some gunk but I just don't get the feeling that it is very efficient and removing everything I need it to...I'm going to leave that skimmer there, but I want to add...

"vacuuming" while doing a water change

I plan to do a 10-15% water change as soon as my tank finishes its first cycle...when I do the water change, I want to make sure to "vacuum" my sand as good as possible of any material that may have come off the live rock. Is there a special vacuum hose that is better than regular wide...

    Brown stuff in my sump...

Live rock has now been in the tank for past 24 hours...noticed some light brown film developing in the corner where my skimmer sits: I moved the skimmer away from the corner a couple inches so there is better flow all around it...the sump section is pretty turbulent with great flow coming...

Handling things that go in the tank

Was wondering if anyone takes precautions with handling any items either when they are first putting into the tank or taking out for some reason (quarantine, etc.)? Was wondering if I should be wearing latex gloves or something when handling stuff that goes into my tank?

    How to add live rock

Aside from the obvious action of lifting the rock up and placing it in the tank and removing my arm....was wondering if I need to go through any sort of "rinsing" process when I get my live rock tomorrow...I've read where I should maybe "prepare" the live rock before adding to my tank?

    My cup runneth over...

After upsizing my protein skimmers air pump and water pump, I am a estatic with the results...here is a shot of my skimmer 4 hours after officially starting it up:
