    affordable lighting

Sorry. Length is 4 ft. It is a standard 120 gal. 4'X2'X2'. I did some reading on the fixtures you suggested. Sounds like they have balast issues? Is is easy to change out the balasts if they don't last? Do they dissipate heat well? I dont want to raise the water temp too much.

    affordable lighting

I have had my 120 gal set up and running since March of 09. I am anxious to add corals but need to upgrade my lighting. I only have one strip light now. Fish and live rock are doing great. My question is what is an affordable way to upgrade my lighting? I can not afford the $600 plus to...

Coco Worm not looking so good

the Gobie stirs up the substrait and the tank gets cloudy from time to time. but it clears up quickly. I have been monitoring the nitrates and nitrites because of this. As far as the calcium. I have not checked but if it is extending it's tube I would think it has the calcium it needs.

Coco Worm not looking so good

I have had a Coco Worm for about 3 months now. He has been doing great up until now. He has added about 1-1/2 inches of new tube in the last month. Now he seems to go into the tube more often and when he is out it does not extend it's feathers (for lack of better terms). It stays compact...

I am going to purchase one from the purewaterclub today. they have a week special that I dont think I can pass on. Thanks for the info. Could the tap water have started a cycle in the system with the last water change? I have since done a water change with RO water about 10% and the...

    info on RO/DI unit

I want to buy a RO and or RO/DI unit. I am not sure what ones perform the best. Also, how would these be installed? Most provide GPD to reference output. Do these store water in a tank and you draw from that tank? or do you simply install them and they produce water as you need it. I have...

Octopus BH-800 HOB with tons of bubbles

This skimmer is a HOB and the pump is internal in the unit. I can not adjust water flow. I have tried to use a valve on the air intake with no micro bubble reduction. The skimmer is producing nice thick skimmate. I know it is doing the job. Bubbles only issue.

Octopus BH-800 HOB with tons of bubbles

Since the thread got resurrected and there seems to be more responses I thought I would provide an update on my Octopus B-800. Still many micro bubbles at times. I find I have to have the collection cup very high in the chamber or it skims very wet and fills the cup very quickly. I have been...

Octopus BH-800 HOB with tons of bubbles

I started the filter again today when I could stay and monitor it. Today was better in the bubble department. I am still getting bubbles in the tank but much less. I have the collection cup up as high as I can get it. Producing a thick foam rising up the tube. Things are looking much...

Octopus BH-800 HOB with tons of bubbles

I will turn the water out to the back of the tank see if that helps. Freshreef- did you have the bubble issue in the tank for 3 weeks? There were so many bubbles it looked like alka-seltzer and actually fizzed on water surface.

Octopus BH-800 HOB with tons of bubbles

I just purchased the Octopus BH-800 skimmer. I was concerned I would have issues getting the siphon and starting the flow. This was actually quite easy. My issue is the unit produces so many fine bubbles they get exhausted in the tank. So many bubbles I can not see the back of the tank when...

Yote, today we went on a trek to see what we could find. I found some base rock today. we found what looks like a great Marine Store. It is not close but they had base rock and much live rock. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. They only have Salt water fish and invertebrates...

    conflicting informtation on start up

Thanks for the advice and suggestions from Biff and Daugherty. I didn't think the rock would be an issue to find. I will keep a look out for good deals and get it when I can. I was hoping to get live rock and base rock in and established before introducing fish. I know I need to have...

    conflicting informtation on start up

In my area here "Greater Cleveland,OH" we do not have the LFS we used to have. i have three that I can go to within a 1/2 hour drive. The third is about an hour. I guess none are worth their salts as all three of them do not have any rock for salt water other than Live Rock. Two of the...

I have the new tank set up, sand added, water added and salt. I have been runing filter for about few hours. Water cloudy. I assume it is fine particulants from the sand. I am in search of base rock. I can only find live rock in my area. I had some lava rock that I took back from Biff's...

Okay. today I picked up my 120 gallon tank. Adding water it was filling up quicker than I thought it should. I purchased a Aqueon Glass Aquarium Size 120. I assumed it was 120 Gallons and their website lists it as 120 gallons. I calculated the volume using the inside dimensions of the...
