    unknown algae

I have included a couple of pics. I need help identifying this thing in my pics. Don't know if it's good or bad. And if it is bad how do i get rid of it. The first one is a picture taken from the main tank, it's a black furry thing, which is only isolated in the area where the picture was...

    filtration suggestion

Hey guys, I'm planning to set up a 55 gallon fish only tank- mostly predators fishes. My eel is getting to big for my reef tank and it's feeding habits are a big bio load on my reef tank. I want to set up this tank on my corner coffee table. I plan to have a good amount of live rock, dsb...

new to sw, want to start a small and simple 20, what set-up......

I think you're looking for a short cut, but in this hobby there are NO SHORTCUTS. Do a little research. It's not easy to advise you, because each individual has a different setup. Are you planning on having corals, if yes what type of corals. If you do plan to add corals, you'll need a lighting...

    Probably a worn out question

Check out nano tanks on the web- that should give you an idea. My brother has a 6 gallon nano tank with a pc lighting system. He has in it live rock, a deep sand bed, numerous mushrooms, a clown fish, a watchman goby, and a garden eel. After two months everything died, Nitrates and salinity was...

    I need a makeover.

I want to rearrange all the rocks and change up all my corals. I am doing this to make my tank look better and to try to achieve the best structural design for proper water movement and coral placement considering lighting. I want to glue my corals to my rock, I've used epoxy in the past but...

    Phosphate

Your problem seems very similar to what I had in the past. My advice would be to probably feed less, since you only do a 10% water change every other week. I usually do a 20 % water change weekly or 10 % water change twice a week. I also was using a wet/dry trickle filter- got rid of that crap...

    swapping sump/refuge

I just finished building a sump/ refuge ( 29 gallons- biggest size that fits under tank). I plan to replace it with an old refuge ( 20 gallons), because I want more water volume. My question is the following- my current refuge is partitioned in half- one part dsb and the other mud, it also...

    super skimmer question

A week ago I installed the corallife super skimmer 125 for my 90 gallon reef tank. The manual states in takes 48-72 hours to break in. It's been a week and no waste is visible in the collection cup. I have the dial set so the microbubbles are in the med level of the cone in the collection cup...

test kits- so many out there

I'm looking to buy a new test kit for my water. With so many testing products out there it's hard to choose the right one for your tank. I recently bought a nitrate test becuase my last one ran out. It was horrible, the color patterns go from light pink to dark pink and the range in ppm is not...

purple sea slug released yellow stuff.

Well I don't think it's poo because it hasn't decomposed yet. It's still looks intacted and hasn't moved from it's spot. I've just left it alone and wait to see what happens.

purple sea slug released yellow stuff.

I believe they are filter feeders- I have three and they seem to be pretty hardy, mine have gone through 2 system over loads. I heard they release toxins when they die which can cause seroius problems, but not really sure

purple sea slug released yellow stuff.

I think these are better pics- the yellow string is still entacted there are no breaks, and it's folded in a circular way. As far as I know none of the fishes have picked on it.

    cycling & LR

Well if your tank is cycling I would put all the rocks in. Plus LFS will say it's cure but sometimes it's not. (do the smell test, if it stinks then there's dead organisms on the rock) You don't want to cycle your tank then put the rocks which my cause a 2nd cycle. Might as well just have one...

whats everyones advice on lace rock

Well I'm familar with lace rock because I used a lot of it when I had a fresh water cichlid tank. Lace Rock is very popular in fresh water tanks and so is texas holey rock. But I've never heard of it being used in marine aquariums. If you can't use it then I'm sure you can sell it- I...
