Newwww

When it comes to Hippo's,there are those that have ick,and those that are going to get ick.Its just a fact of their little fishy lives.

UPDATE:

The Hippo is doing well in the QT, waiting for the weekend to come so that my friend can pick him up and give him a better home.
Today i picked up a Fire Blood Shrimp, 5 Turbo Snails and a Lawnmower Blenny!

So while i was looking at the tank, i noticed a brownish/red starfish with really long skinny legs coming out of one of my rocks...what kind of starfish is it? is it good/safe or should i kill that bastard??

Sounds like a brittle star, usually reef safe.

I just notice that you have a bare bottom.I haven't seen someone do that in a DT in a very long time.

I have a bare bottom because i had live sand and crushed coral mixed, and the crushed coral was giving me problems as far as my parameters go, such as nitrates and phosphates, so i removed everything. I will be adding sand soon, i don't like the bare bottom.

UPDATE:

Today after taking the Hippo to its new home, i did a water change and added some new Live Sand.
Then i tested the water, here's the results.
- Alkalinity/KH: 16
- Nitrate: 0
- PH: 8.0
- Salinity: 1.023
- Nitrite: 0
- Ammonia: 0
- Temperature: 77.5 F

Seems that the Alk/KH is a bit too high, should i stop dosing the 2 part solution?? It seems that since i've been using that, i've been able to raise the PH.

Here are some pics!

looks much better with sand IMO. I noticed you're lps corals don't seem to have very much polyp extension. how much lighting did you say you have?

Yea i like it a lot better with the sand!
As far as lights go, i have a T5 fixture with 2 actinics and 2 white bulbs
I had a torch, which died yesterday
The frogspawn is doing better today, there was too much flow so it wouldn't open up too much, now i tried to change the flow so we'll see if it improves!!

Im gonna agree with Biff.If your calcium is lower than 380,then just dose the calcium part.If not, dont dose anything.

Once again it's been a while, i don't even have that much time to be on the forums and such due to school and work, but now it's starting to get a little bit better. Quite a few changes have happened since last time i posted, such as more corals, more live rock and another shrimp. I also got rid of the HOB Filter and added TLF Phosban reactor, which has helped me lower the phosphates to about 0.5.
Well, time for the pics!!

FTS...the tube is the outlet from the Phosban, currently working finding a good place to hide it

this is how the tank stands as of now, will be adding some new members after christmas!

great job. my tank has been cycling for two weeks now and this thread helped me out alot in which way i will be heading. any info on if i can add a small cleaner crew while cycling the tank. the only thing in my tank is live rock and live sand and im starting to notice diatoms on my rock and sand. or should i let it go and wait.

Not too sure about the clean-up crew, i guess it all depends what you're thinking on getting. I first added a damsel, nice and hardy fish, then added a clownfish. Had to get rid of the damsel because he was a pest to my clown. As far as cleanup crew goes, i think you might be able to add some hermit crabs, since they seem to be more hardier than other invertebrates. Snails will not tolerate bad water quality, same applies for shrimp. I would just get a few hermit crabs and see what happens. Keep testing your water and making sure that your parameters are in check. What did you use to cycle?

So i haven't updated this thread in a long time...it's time to add my newest additions and how my tank stands!
