Marinne's 65G LPS tank

WoW!!! i've never heard of Cirolanid Isopods. sorry i had to hear about it on your tank build. hopefully this tank will cycle quickly for your clowns. Good Luck

I have also written off the TBS rock...too many pests....like I said, my little bit of TBS rock unleashed a plague of Gorilla Crabs that took over a year to get rid of....

yeah I am using 22lbs of base rock in my 30 and went to my LFS and got 3 pieces of LR from him

so I have no ammonia spike or nitrite spike, have put several pellets and a dime size of rods food in a net in the tank, it has been there for over 24 hours

should I wait a little more or put some more food in? I did use the water from my 65G but no substrate or rock, I might have transferred some bacteria but know that it doesn't sit in the water column

Sorry to hear about this Marinne. That's just terrible. I didn't know what these things were till now. thinking about it when you get LR from TBS you get what ever the ocean has given the rock, good and bad. Good luck

It's good to know that you already started with the cycle on your 30 gallon. I think you should wait a little more if nothing happen put more food in it. It was a very good idea you use the water of your 65G for the 30G, the established bacteria on it should help to have a short cycle.

I'm crossing my fingers for you Marinne. :)

thanks and yes I am going to wait a few more days...however the little male clown isn't doing good, LFS owner called me and said he doesn't think he is going to make it

he is the one who had the isopod attached and had a pretty significant scar, who knows how long that thing was on him

Those are terrible news poor little thing. Are they treating the fish with something to help him heal maybe some antibiotics? I bet he's not eating, this is so sad. :(

well now it's time for some bad news and more bad news :(...my clowns died, they must have had those isopods eating their flesh/blood for too many days

another bad thing is, our Petco just opened up here in Minot so I went in to see if they are actually doing things right...OMG, their tanks are a disgrace and I was so upset I emailed the company. Every SW fish they had were dying and the tanks were disgusting

I'm very sorry your clowns died Marinne. I know you cared a lot for them. Are you gonna still going ahead with your tank? I think you shouldn't let this take you away from enjoying the hobby for too long. I know you can make a great tank and I'm sure you will have better luck next time too. :)

I just want to share that I also have a bad experience with Petco. I bought my first fish there a pair of clownfish and they both died. They didn't eat because they had parasites. It was so sad to see them died and the Petco here doesn't allow refunds at all. I did my best and I thought It was me, until I had more knowledge and understood more about unhealthy fish and bad places to buy them. Two days after they died I bought my dottyback in another LFS and he's very alive and healthy to this day.

I'm very glad you sent that letter to them.

I am keeping my tank, going to get another pair next week

Petco called me and I schooled them lol...the lady was like, well the rock isn't cycled??? Wtf, I said why would you pit fish in a tank that isn't cycled and she had no answer then asked me "well you need to wait a no the right?"

I was like, aren't you the aquatics specialist??

OK Marinne I do believe you should send them the bill for your services that free advice just save them a lot of money and some fish lives too. That people doesn't know what they're doing how can they be working at a LFS when they don't know how to keep the fish alive and healthy. This world is definitely upside down in some places.

By the way, do you think they make 18 dollars per hour in this Petco? I just remember that from one of your older post.

dang that sucks sorry to hear. the petco here is ok looking. still have my favorite lfs to buy stuff at. got the nano or pico tank moved into the new house.
