    White sand no more

The sand I have at the bottom of my tank isn’t “WHITE” anymore but more of a slightly dirty white. I have four nassarius snails, four turbos and couple hermits and a sea urchin that move the sand around a lot. So, I’m just curious if this is normal. I don’t think it’s diatom since I’ve...

How to clean your built in overflow

I've got a little bit of algae on the plastic of my built in overflow. It's plastic and goes all the way to the bottom of the tank so I don't think it's a good idea to use a razor. What has worked for you?

    Ich or not

I thought my yellow belly tang had Ich, but I could be wrong. All of a sudden he seemed to have one dot on the nose, 2 on the right side and one on the right side of his tail. I did 20% water change and feed them food soaking in garlic. This is my first time dealing with ich so bear with me...

Open Brain Coral and Candy Cane

Just checking ... both my open brain coral and candy cane fill out very well when the lights are on, but after the lights are off (4 hours later) both corals look somewhat like a skeleton. Normal?

    White dots?

I’ve just ordered my mag-float with easy blade attachment to remove algae from the glass. This morning I noticed a couple white dots on the glass. The come off fairly easily, but have no idea what they are. Thoughts?

    mag-float w/ easy blade VS. mag-flip

Anyone have experience with Mag-Float w/ Easy Blade or Mag-Flip? Below is a url to a youtube video of someone who purchased a mag-float 125 and a junior easy blade. He super glued the easy blade to the mag-float. Looks like a good idea. YouTube - Product Review: Easy Blade w/Mag Float Thanks

I have algae and I'm nervous

This particular tank has been setup since Dec and the only algae boom I had was diatom which went away fast (plus I have a RO/DI unit now). I have 5 cerith, 5 nass, 2 small and 2 HUGE turbo snails, plus 4 hermits. So I noticed four days ago some algae on my glass. Very tiny amounts but...

Suggestions for Big Fish in Small Tank

I have a clown fish that hosts the back of a rock. So we don't see him much. As of now he is the only fish in the tank. I'm looking for a fish that "swims" more than hides, but I only have a 70 gallon tank. Any suggestions? I know this may not work since big fish need space, but are there...

Options for not having a quarantine tank

I was thinking of getting a Yellow Belly Tang. I know they are very prone to ick. I don’t have enough space in my apartment to get a quarantine tank and the g/f won’t let put another tank in the house. What are your options for quarantining a fish if you do not have a quarantine tank...

    Whitley Boxfish - Feeding

I have a Whitely Boxfish who is doing pretty good so far in my 70 gallon tank. He’s surfing around all the time just scoping things out. He was sometimes stressed in the beginning when people watch him, but now he loves his home. Problem, I feed him Mysis which he goes nuts for...

    Slow RO/DI

I just got my RO/DI unit and I got it all hooked up. The unit is meant to do 150 GPD. The outflow for the good water is slow, but the outflow for the bad water is pretty fast. Just checking that I've got this right

Hermit and Shrimp - Eating left over food

I have a whitley boxfish which requires a lot of food. Often he will leave little bits of Mysis which end up behind some rock. I have a peppermint shrimp and 3 baby hermit crabs. The shrimp and hermits eat left over food, correct? On another note, the whitley boxfish also defecates...

    Blue Anthelia

I have some live rock that have blue anthelia on them. This stuff is spreading quickly and I'm not even feeding them any micro-plankton! Does anyone have experience with them? From what I have read, they can grow quickly, but aren't aggressive. Is this true? I feel that in 6-8 months this...

Ricordea Mushroom - to much light

Just checking to see if my ricordea mushroom is getting to much light ... At night, when the LED moonlighting is "on" my ricordea mushroom lays out flat and looks "relaxed." When the main lights are on, my ricordea pulls inwards a little and the side curl up. Normal behavior? Cool...

Curing Live Rock with Old Water

I recently upgraded to a new 70 reef tank. The live rock from my old tank is currently in the curing process. I took the live rock and scrubbed them down. I left them in a bucket for one week (WITHOUT water). I wanted the rock to die. The rocks had diatom on them. So, how do I make them...
